Outstanding Education at Roan St Patrick's

28th Nov 2016

A recent Sustaining Improvement Inspection by the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) at Roan St Patrick’s Primary School, Eglish, found that the school ‘continues to demonstrate a high level of capacity for sustained self-improvement, in the interest of all children.’ Reporting Inspector, Mrs Geraldine McCormick, also stated that the school ‘has continued to sustain its outstanding provision in all areas.’

During feedback to school management and teaching staff, Mrs McCormick highlighted the ‘consistently very high standards in teaching’ evident during lesson observations. She also praised the ‘consistently very high standards evident in the children’s work’.  Mrs McCormick commended the leadership and management structures within the school which have went through recent change. She talked about the very high level of capacity evident among key coordinators within the school, especially in the areas of Numeracy, Literacy, Assessment, ICT and Special Needs.

The school uses teacher judgement and data to track the individual needs of all children and has solid intervention provision in place when needed. Children in the school achieve well-above the national average in both Numeracy and Literacy and have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities available to them.

Associate Inspector, Mrs Fiona Kearney, commented on ‘the calm and productive ambience’ within the school and Mrs McCormick highlighted the ‘mutual respect’ between staff and children, who she said were ‘delightful ambassadors for the school, with exemplary behaviour.’

Roan St Patrick’s will hold an Open Night on Tuesday 6th November at 6.30pm for all prospective parents and children.
